    Tower Hill Stables Animal Sanctuary
provides care and a home for life, to over 400 rescued animals. The Sanctuary is run almost entirely by Fiona Oakes with help from her partner at the weekends. There are a mixture of domestic and ex-farm animals including 36 Horses, 4 Cows, 50 Pigs, 40 Cats & 35 Dogs, plus many smaller animals. All of the 36 rescued dogs live in the house with Fiona to provide a "home" atmosphere for them as most have been previously thrown due to age or other problems - usually incontinence.

Despite all of the hard work, Fiona is also a top international standard marathon runner which she does to demonstrate that, as a Vegan she is no slouch in one of the toughest athletic endurance events. She has come within the top ten in many international races & 20th in London. She also holds the course record for the Essex Country Championship by over 11 minutes. Fiona runs an average of 18 miles a day as part of her training regime.

The Sanctuary is not set up as a business and there are no staff to pay, so every penny received in donation goes entirely towards the animal feed bills which stand at £5300 a month. The Sanctuary has 250 members worldwide who sponsor a rescue on a monthly basis and this covers about half the costs. The remaining balance is provided from Fiona and Martin's salaries - Fiona is a retained Fire-Fighter & Martin works for a Bank.

Extend a big warm welcome to Animal Care Lancaster!

Animal Care are a registered charity based in Lancaster, who have existed in various forms for over 30 years, since 1978!

A few local animal lovers started to care for animals in their own homes when no-one else would help them and as the need for help increased so did the need for a permanent site to house the dogs, cats, rabbits, sheep, goats, horses and other animals desperately in need of care and attention. In 1987 Blea Tarn Kennels were kindly donated to the charity and since then the many volunteers involved in the charity have helped improve the site so it is able to provide the best home until a forever home can be found for each and every animal.

At any one time there can be up to 40 dogs/puppies, 70 cats/kittens, 50 rabbits, rodents, ferrets and other species at the centre while permanent homes are found for them. Occasionally the centre looks after wildlife that may need the interim care before it goes on to a specialist wildlife centre. The charitable aims of the organisation are to help unwanted, stray and unloved animals and then to find them permanent homes with suitable owners. This in itself is becoming harder and harder as each year we have more and more abandoned and unwanted animals needing our help. At present we have 30+ dogs on either the waiting list or stuck at local dog pounds waiting to come in.

Please take some time out to visit the Animal Care website, and extend them the warm customary Vocalcafe welcome!

We would like to welcome NESSR as a friend of Vocalcafe!

NESSR (Northern English Springer Spaniel Rescue) was set up 30 years ago by Cynthia Turvey when she went to buy a Springer puppy and was appalled at the state of the mother so asked to take her as well. Cynthia quickly became known as the spaniel lady and initially was taking one or two a month and finding them new homes.

The need for NESSR now is greater than ever. In the last three years NESSR have re-homed an average of 200 dogs per year, mainly Springers but NESSR also help Cockers (mainly Workers) and any other Spaniel. NESSR are committed to ensuring that any dog that it is asked to help is properly assessed in a foster home before it is matched up to the right home for the dog. NESSR carries out Home Checks and Vet References before any dog is homed with a prospective new owner.

NESSR is also committed to ensuring that any dog that leaves their care is fully up to date with their vaccinations, micro chipped, flea treated, wormed and neutered. All dogs that come into the care of NESSR with a medical problem are fully vet checked and where necessary NESSR commit to cover the vets bills for that illness for the rest of the dogs life, the same with the Oldies NESSR are responsible for any age related vets bills that may occur in the dogs retirement home. This takes a lot of money and huge part of the year is spent fund-raising.

NESSR is run entirely with a committed group of volunteers who all give as much time as possible as they can be it fostering, fund raising, web site maintenance, making things to sell, home checking, vet reference checking or transporting, and its all “For the Dogs”.

We'd like you to warmly welcome NESSR to the site. Please make some time to visit their website for a wee looksy!
