Hello,
Well I finally went and got my eyes lasered yesterday morning (11am) and all seems pretty cool so far. The op went well and now (27 hours after) my vision with both eyes is better than 20/20. I still have some minor blurring in bright light - but thats expected for the first couple of weeks.
The op itself was uncomfortable in parts (placing of the clips to hold open the eye, and placement of the suction cup for the corneal flap) but the parts you think will be uncomfortable are a total breeze (cutting of the corneal flap / the actual lasering). The whole thing was over in about 10 minutes. I went through an hour or so of reasonable discomfort and my eyes were streaming - but after a short sleep all seemed better. After 4 hours, the discomfort was replaced with a minor niggling 'gritty' feeling in each eye. By late evening they were much better and I could watch TV from the kitchen! :06: This morning, after putting in some saline drops, my vision was brilliant! Despite the haze, I could still see distances.
The optical blokie at the surgery examined my eyes this morning and said they were better than expected for day one. My left eye vision was a few lines better than 20/20 (better than my original specs prescription) and my right eye was one line better (about the same as my specs prescription). He thinks the right eye will come in line over the next few days.
All in all, if you're not squeemish and can fork out the £3000 for the LASIK treatment, i'd highly recommend it. I would also recomment avoiding places like OpticalExpress. Having had a consultancy with them first, I got the feeling that they are very much a 'meat market' type deal, who try the hard sell to get you to commit after your 'free' consultancy. I went with a local firm in Aberdeen who were the first to do the operation up here (KirkwoodFyfe (http://www.kirkwoodfyfe.com)) and they have been really good.
Anyone else had experiences with laser eye surgery?
