What's the craziest DIY job you've discovered in your home and who was the owner? :043:

I've just discovered yet another electrical booboo in the form of a 240v socket in the cupboard under the sink to plug the dishwasher in to. Not a big problem at first glance but directly above the socket is the plumbing :032::032::032:

Now i'm no member of MENSA (unless the RAC counts) but come on, how could anyone install electrical sockets directly under plumbing?? :080:

I believe the previous owners of this house should be nominated for a DIY Moron Award :024::012:

We have an old family friend who is very eccentric and lives in a big old victorian town house. Once during a visit I noticed that the walpaper in the lounge had started to peel of the wall so he had nailed it back up with 6inch nails........

All our electric light switches are back to front the one nearest the back door turns the inside light on and the one further inside turns the outside light on

The lights on the stairs have 3 switches to them and if one switch is turn on/off then the other switches don't work - we have got used to it now but visitors think they have broken it LOL

Could really do with an electrician to come and sort them all out

Not sure if it was the previous owners or the ones before them - but by golly they were nuts where lights come in and what sort of weird and wonderful circuits they have used just don't make sense

But I think you lot have the winners - mine is more irritating than anything else

I think finding out in our house in Kemnay that in the shower socket, instead of a fuse there was a...........paperclip!!

Oh yes, I forgot about that one, mind you being an ex-sparky anything electrical that isn't done right just freaks me out. I don't understand why people mess with things they don't know about :080:

Mine is the fact that when the bathroom was done and the layout changed, the flooring was put down first then then new toilet and sink was installed on top of it.. I want to change the flooring but can't now without having to take the toilet and sink out... bah!!!!

What makes it worse that I was the owner at the time too but I wasn't the one doing the DIY!!

Mine was the first morning after moving in here, I emptied the water from the wash basin the bathroom and the water landed on my feet!! the pipes were different sizes!

hahahaha....i once had new double glazed windows,and bashed nails into them to hang some curtains!!! i heard them go ssssssssss...ssssssssssssss ...then i plugged an outside lamp into a socket,with no lid on it,the wires were all staring at me,my gawd did i get a shock!!!!!!!!!!!!! knocked me bandy it did!!! xx
