Ok. I am now regretting not taking much notice of previous threads on girlie doggies ops!
Teal is booked in for wednesday morning. I took the decision to get this done before her season starts. She's only just 2, had at least 1 litter and been through a lot in her short life.
She has become destructive and I reckon it might be linked to her hormones.
She was last in season at the end of June and had pups about 13 weeks ago I believe.
So come on all you bitchy mums.... Advice please!!!

I know it's a bigger op than boy bits getting removed-lol. Robbie never even noticed they'd gone.
But what after care/recovery time expected? Will I need to take some time off to stay with her? At least she is used to the crate so she can go in there for peace and quiet.

They tell you to keep them calm and lead walks only for about 2 weeks, not that it bothered Kooki, she ripped her stitches only 1 day after getting home and was right as rain after a week- I on the other hand was a total nervous wreck. She was great about leaving her wound alone but Fred was fasinated with her stotches and we had to put her in a babygro to stop him licking them. We kept Kooks in her crate for the first couple of days as it was the only way to stop her leaping around. HTH

I never crated Lyla but then I was home all the time. I used legless sleepsuits as Lyla felt a lot better feeling the floor. You can get them in Tesco for pennies so can get a few sizes just in case. I also used Rescue Remedy to calm her and Arnica cream for the bruising. I did keep Lyla from jumping for about a week but I couldn't stop her running around. All it did was add days on to the healing time but she didn't do any serious damage.

Used a t-shirt on madam Fern as couldn't stand the buster collar
Good luck with the op and if she is anything like Fern after two days max you'll be pulling your hair out trying to stop her jumping up on the settee etc

she could be due in season in december. its hard to say as pups knock it off sync a bit but they are pretty much 6 months apart. I got cora done and she must have just been coming into season when they operated as rolo was going mad for her after. thankfully that all stopped and all has been fine since.

I wasn't sure if having pups affected the seasons. If not, then I am surprised the vets have agreed to operate. The blood vessels dilate when they are coming into season which makes it much more complicated. All I know is mid season is the optimum time for their safety.

Meant to say as well that there is research both for and against whether it will stop destructive tendencies (more for) and also divided opinion on its ability to protect against mammary cancer but it will absolutely stop her from getting pyometra which can kill x

Yeah - i had heard half way between seasons was best - but vet said it was a good time to get her done - so hopefully all will be well!

midway between seasons is the best ... but one of my girls was spayed 9 weeks after whelping..due to it being her last litter..and how her seasons fell..this was on vets advise too..she sailed through no problems...xxxx
also spaying to calm them down...does not work..its done more for health benefits...but can take upto 6 months before you see any change in them...if they will calm down....
s just want to wish your girl all the best for a safe and speedy recovery...xxxxxx

Oh, maybe i'm confusing everyone - I'm not doing it cos I think it will calm her down - just for medical reasons and the fact that she is a rescue dog and it is part of the agreement.
I will try the DAP diffuser in a couple of weeks or so if she is still being destructive, but in the meantime she seems quite happy to cosy up in the crate if i am out during the day - they sleep on the sofa at night without any bother.

I would definitely use the Rescue Remedy Nessie. It helps if they are anxious for any reason and it is totally homeopathic so won't do her any harm whether it works or not!

Ok - will get some - is it put into her water or straight in her mouth?

Either doll. I usually put it in the water but then my two drink a lot when at kennels. Think it says on the box how much in water etc.

good luck.. crating her is a good idea when you cant be watching her.. saves a lot of heartache and saves sanity I think. nothing worse than coming home to a destroyed house. xxx

Well, my little girlie is in the vets and on the table! They gave her a thorough check and no sign of season starting - so they reckoned it was fine!
Will phone at lunchtime to see how she is! Pick her up at 4.30!

Hope all goes well. Just keep busy and then you won't worry so much. Have you got everything in place? Did you get the RR? The Arnica cream is really great at helping with bruising which is a definite if she won't keep still xx
ETA The babygrows aren't just an oddball idea of mine, I think most of the girl owners on COL use them! Just in case you thought I was turning into a dotty old woman.........(don't say anything!:065:)

Update! She's still quite settled but vest not long enough to comfortably get poppers done. Don't want to leave her with buster collar... So all 3 of us are in my bed. It's very low to the floor so it's easy for her to get on and off. Have left the vest on but not done up.
Brought dog bed up in the hope she'd settle beside the bed... But she's fond of her comforts now so is cuddled in beside me.
Robbie seems to know she's poorly and he has settled on the dog bed!!! A first!!!
She hasn't eaten, or drunk. But she has peed and poo'd.
Wish us a restful night!!!

Three in a bed kinda worked. Lol!
She's been an angel so far. Gave her some metacam this morning. What a pallava!!
Bottle has funny wee dropper top on it so how you meant to get it in the syringe???
Anyway. She's been out for a pee. Had her brekkie and a drink and is not looking too sore/stiff.
Back to vets on sat for post op check but no need for another visit hopefully as all stitches are internal.
Here she is in her modified vest!!!

She looks lovely in her dashing new clothes!!

Push syringe plunger down. Cover Metacam top with syringe top, invert so metacam is on top and syringe on the bottom and then just pull the syringe plunger until you have the right dose x Keep hold of both bottles in your hand because the nozzle to nozzle isn't the best fit!

look like this....
it comes with a metacam syringe...tip bottle upside down....and draw with the syringe to the dose for your dog.....
i have two of my dogs on this permantley..and take it everyday.........so am used to getting metacam out....lol...

She's fab- you wouldnt know she had had surgery!
She is relatively calm by nature anyways - so that helps - she has been walking well to heel - i just feel so awful - but thats 5 days now so by the weekend she will be off lead but for short periods and controlled - so lucky she comes back to heel when told!
My other wee foster is an absolute poppet too - so happy house of hounds at the moment!
