Finn is home where he belongs. Operation went well. The lump was pretty nasty apparently and has been sent off for histology, results of which should be here next week. In all probability it will grow again and we will have to go through this again but for now I'm being positive. His xrays showed a small mass on on of his lungs and his heart is slighty enlarged but nothing to worry about thank goodness. Alison said what a fit dog he is and once his leg has healed he should be galloping around again. He is now lying in front of the fire lording it up. He has to have crate rest for a few days and not charge around - opped into PAH and bought one - put it up and put his duvet in it - Finn went in and laid down - next thing Madam Jan pushed her way in and wanted to lie down - Finn, god love him, got up with a resigned look on his face, sort of shrugged his shoulders and went and lay in front of the fire. Dogs who would have 'em:053:

Thanks you everyone for your thoughts today - certainly helped me and I'm sure the positive thoughts worked on Finn.

Sheryl - he is back to his old self - never heard a peep out of him all night. So much for resting his leg he took off this morning at 6.30 a.m. chasing the bunnies in the garden!!!! Thank goodness he is sleeping at the moment.

Finn you lord it up as much as you can

Nessie he is doing that all right - asleep on my bed at the moment.

Sorry to hear about Finn's ordeal but really glad to see he's back home safe and sound again and appears to have bounced back to his old self again. Keeping my fingers crossed for a good report back from histology too.:075:

The Report on him today is - BACK TO NORMAL - don't think he understands the instructions about not flying and jumping about. Wound is looking very clean, no redness or pus (sorry about that) thank goodness. Results should be in either Monday or Wednesday - Alison will phone me when they do arrive.

No - no results yet so suppose I'll have to bite my nails until Wednesday. Back to normal is Mr Finn - but his leg bothers him when we are out (lead walk only) so its 'baby' steps at the moment.

Well since I posted the above I've had Alison the Vet on the phone with the results. Sadly they are not brilliant. It is a Soft Cell Carcioma(sp?) and is graded Intermediate. The good thing is, if there is a good thing about the results, it is not a invasive cancer. If Alison didn't manage to get everything out it will probably come back within 6 months and will mean another operation. If, and fingers crossed, all was removed the chances are that it will not return. Just have to keep a good eye on the site and if there is so much as a pea sized lump it will be removed. I'm trying to be positive and fingers crossed that it does not return. I do feel better for knowing what it is though. It was the 'not knowing' that was hard. Please keep my darling boy in your thoughts.

SOrry the results were what they were but hopefully there wont be a re-occurence of it and at least you now know what it was, Finn is recovering well and you know what you are dealing with. Sending you both big big hugs xxxx

Well, one thing about results are that at least you know what you are dealing with. As you say, the unknown is worse. I suppose in the scheme of things that the results were good. It is non aggressive so that is a great start and now you are on the alert, nothing will get past you! Here is wishing you many, many more sunshine years with Finn and all good wishes and positive thoughts coming your way xxx

Whats the scoop on him Sue? Is he still doing ok?

My poor poor Mr Finn:069: Went on Monday to get the stitches out - little devil and managed to get 2 of them out and it would be the ones at the site of the tumour. Wound was infected so Alison stapled the hole up this time and he had to wear the lampshade 24/7:074: Only thing was he wouldn't go outside for a wee and a poo with it on - so it had to come off when he went outside. This morning I noticed a lump on his leg in the same place - thankfully we had to go for a check up - the cavity where the tumour was has filled with fluid. Back again on Monday and if fluid has not been reabsorbed by the body Alison will drain it. It is in such an akward place it's difficult to put a tight bandage on it which would help with the fluid. One good thing though the infection is away and he doesn't have to wear the lampshade when we are around but obviously has to go on at nights and when I'm at work. Has to be crated at night and when I'm out. He really is not a happy chappie at the moment. Alison also told me the tumour was very large and very nasty - just praying that she managed to get it all out. I'm worried about him - something about him that I can't put my finger on - perhaps I'm just being paranoid.

Thank you for all being here for Mr Finn xxxx

You would be uncaring and a total monster if you were not worried about him, you are not paranoid!! You are a worried, loving owner that only wants the best of care for their 'furry' family and you should discuss anything that is concerning you with the vet- if it is nothing at least they can put your mind at rest and if the worst comes to the worst and it is something you have given him the best possible chance of getting treatment asap. SOrry I havent been on here much but Mr Finn has been in my thoughts xxx

Spangles
6th November 2010, 22:27
Sheryl thank you for asking. Back to the Vets on Monday - fluid has not been reabsorbed by the body so looks like he will have to have it drained. He is as bright as button but trying to keep him in go slow mode is a never ending battle. He is not allowed exercise apart from going in the garden for a wee and a poo. Poor boy is doing the wall of death round the house!!! I've put him in his crate to try and keep exercise to a minimum but directly I'm out of the room he starts whinging.

Aww poor Finn - how do they do the draining, will he have to be sedated or is it something they can do without him wriggling? Sending big snuggles for him.:075:

Spangles
6th November 2010, 22:49
Angie I haven't a clue how they do it:035: Alison did mutter something about she didn't really want to give him another GA so soon after the op - hopefully it will be a matter of just sedating him because I'm not too happy either about him having another GA - will find out more on Monday.

I am sure they can just sedate him Sue, I hope so anyway. What a shame for poor Mr Finn though. You must be tired trying to keep him quiet. It drove me crazy after Lylas spay and that was supposed to be for 3 weeks. It ended up as 3 days....:076:
