Our old dogs passed away a few years back (chocolate lab and a mixxed terrier) and I'd love to get another. I just bought my wife two dog related books for her birthday as a hint (little extra surprise presents, already got her the main prezzie) She's always liked dogs and she religously watches the dog whisperer so I bought her one of the Cesar Milan books + "Marley & Me: Life and Love With the World's Worst Dog" as i'd heard good things about it.
Does this make me a bad person?

Nope, 'tis a great plan. I want another dog too, but i really can't, i'm stretched thin enough as it is, but i still want one. I've got to wait 'til Indie is 3 then i want to foster oldies. :12: :13:

Lol nothing like a bit of groundwork, which a cleverly devised plan always needs ;) Good luck with getting a new doggie, any breed in mind? I'm gonna get another in the next couple of years, cant get a pup tho, Thomas just does not do pups or boisterous dogs at all :11:

I'd love a another chocolate lab to be honest. Did some work for someone this week who had a black 2 -3 yr old lab and he was lovely. I'm not big on small dogs. I like a dog you can wrestle! :045:

Have you considered adopting one from the breed rescue, they have co ordinators in most areas ;) they probably have ready to wrestle ones too :D
http://www.labrador-lifeline.co.uk or http://www.manytears.co.uk have a beautiful one called "Vanish"

I would agree with mich, as young labs are terrors for chewing.
There are loads of labs in rescue through no fault of there own.
The very best of luck with your search.
Oh and Marley and Me is a real tear jerker I spent two days at home with a couple of bottles of wine and couldn't put it down.

Unfortunately my wife wears the trousers in this (as in most) relationship(s) and she's already decided it's a no-no so my hands are tied. I did consider getting her a dog as a birthday present in the hope she'd fall in love with it and not make me take it back but don't really want to go there.
She now has the books, and I might accidently send her the links to those sites. I'll grind down any resistance dammit!

Lol.....good luck with that one, you're gonna need it! maybe it's the thought of having a puppy that's putting her off. OOh definately, accidently send her the many tears link, they have some beautiful dogs there and they all have a heart wrenching story :(

Well the subject was raised (in a slightly half assed way to test the water) but she's definately not interested. Looks like we're stuck with only the two rabbits, the guinea pig and the parrot for now

Stand your ground. What are you.... man or mouse? :045: :045: I hear squeaking!!
Keep at it. Says she who took 10 years to convince their OH they needed a dog. Now he wishes we'd had a dog sooner.
I tried the quiet tac-tic in the end & stopped mentioning it & so did all of my family - it worked for us :D
