View Full Version : Penny's been to the Vets

Penny (my old girlie) has been to the vets today. She's been really quite unwell for the past few days, :062: walks have been fine but she's been eating very little and really quite sick. She's been to stay with my parents for a few days so she can have a bit of rest and relaxation. :077: The vet could see she'd lost weight (she's -1kg) but was generally pleased with her overall waggytail condition. She's had another blood test to check her kidneys (she has Chronic Kidney Failure) and we'll find out the results on Monday. I've been an absolute wreck - :062: she really worries me when she has these lows. My hormones have been all over the place (thanks baby!!) which have made things worse. I had to ask Mum to take her to the vets as I knew I'd just make a scene balling my eyes out - I am hopeless!! She's an old girl (14yrs) so I have to face facts that she won't be with me forever but I don't know what I'll do without my little girlie. Eeeek - better stop can feel the floodgates opening again!!
Anyway, she seems to be perking up now on a diet of cocktail sausages and digestive biscuts :069: (of she eats it and it stays down I don't care!!). Her medication can be adjusted when her results come through on Monday. :) x

Oh Holly, you poor thing - Penny has been with you for such a large chunk of your life that any hint of her not being around must be heartbreaking :( I hope this is just a little blip for her and she is around for a few more years yet :078:
All the best for monday, will have everything crossed for her results :075: :075:

Wishing Penny all the best - digestive biscuits and cocktails sausages sound good to me - at her age she deserves anything she likes IMHO
Good luck to Penny from Penny. :)

Thank you all for your lovely words. Penny's a funny old girlie but I luffs her soo much! I've not had my morning update from Mum and Dad but I'm collecting her after I've been to the doctors at lunchtimeish. I'm sure she's probably blissed out somewhere in a warm sunny spot after something really yummy for breakfast!!

You couldn't be more right Tanya. I had Penny when I was 10yrs old - I can't think of life without her. I found this video on the net the other day which pretty much sums her up...

Update :)
Penny's had her latest blood test so thought I'd better update the thread. Pen was quite unwell last week, lost a lot of weight and I've been very worried about her. I think in hindsight she must've had a tummy bug as she seems a lot better this week after a good rest at Mum and Dad's. Apart from a bit of a sore eye and a bit wobbly on the old legs she seems much better this week. :059:The blood results came back and her Creatine levels have dropped by a third which is brilliant news.
She's eaten like a horse over the past 24hrs which has amazed me no end. She's a different dog from last week where she'd just walk away from food. Last night she stood in the kitchen and barked for treats (me and OH like suckers hadn't realised we'd both been giving her extras so she was a rather full tummy'd dog last night:059:). Good to get a bit of fat back on her though! :048:
