Well finally got Louis of to school last night. It's a bit of a ramshackle affair, I think i could do a better job than the 'trainer', but as I'm just using it as a socialisation exercise for him then it is fine.
It's held in the indoor school where I take the dogs for a mad run every now and then anyway, so he was familiar with the territory. The class consisted of Louis, a cocker and a Bernese mountain dog, with hopefully more joining soon.
It was just Louis and the cocker to start with, and he was ok with the cocker, but as soon as the larger dog came in he started his squealy 'let me at him' noise :Z The other two were let of lead to start with to let some energy out of them, and Louis was growling and trying to snap at the Bernese every time it came within reach :076: I was getting him to sit and distracting with treats, which worked a bit.
After a few mins they were put back on the lead and the training began....just basic sit, down and stay type stuff, but Louis relaxed as it went on and by the time of the second' let of steam' period I was happy to let him of lead. He was great :D a couple of 'rushes' up to the big dog, but then he started to run around with them, or on his own, and didn't want to go in for the kill at all :045:
I think it's very much a confidence thing with him.....big dog = scary, so get in first so to speak. I'll keep taking him and hopefully we'll meet a few different dogs in a controlled environment which will do him the world of good :044:
All in all I was very please and proud of my littlest boy :078:
