Before we went to see about the robbies food,we tried little mabes on...Chappie,i can,t believe the change,no more bad poopy,s and her breath doesn,t smell now,it,s worked wonders, she has lost a bit of weight too, which,to be fair, she needed ,i,m really pleased at how well she is doing, she has no treats in between apart from the cucumber,my little girl is doing brilliantly xxx

Is that the dry or the wet Chappie? I know that NESSR use it a lot for the dogs in their care

Just found this http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090125033657AA8K0B5
if it,s c*** like that bloke says, then how come it works? I,d rather chappie, than pedigree chum and winalot anyday :) x

There is no doubt that the ingredients are rubbish but for some strange reason it does seem to work for some dogs with digestive disorders. If it were me, I would use it to stabilise my dogs guts and then gradually try and change to a better food adding a spoon of Natural Live goats yoghurt to try and keep the gut balanced. That is just me though and I am anal about food as you well know!:076:

I like reading about foods, you know your stuff,so it,s really helpful, she seems stable enough for me to change it now then,it does stink though lol x

Worst case scenario is she has to go back on it....... and best case is she can stay on a good quality food which must be better for her in the long run xx

Yip a chappie fan here too :-) I cant feed any of mine live yoghurts of any sorts it gives them the squits LOL!!

That is a shame as it is so good for them. I found that with cows yoghurt but not goats. I am sorry but I couldn't feed my two anything with preservatives or additives or derivatives, my conscience wouldn't let me. Especially after feeding Chloe cr@p for years and wondering how different things would have been had I been more choosy with what I put into her............ but horses for courses and I know some people swear by it.:)

I don,t half get confused on these threads lol,one minute this is best, then that ...think i,ll go with my first decision now hahahahaha..i suppose it does depend on the dogs too xx

It is confusing and depends on the owner and circumstances I guess. I want to give the girls the best I can and especially now I am armed with the knowledge of what constitutes a good food. That is just me, my opinion and my way..............my girls are what concern me.:044:

I feel the same, when you find out exactly what causes what, and how things affect them, you do want the best, thats what my aim is now with mabes,i can,t go wrong,if i arm myself with as much knowledge, and apply that as best as i can,
I,ll go with the robbies, now that she has settled, and i,ll try her with live yoghurt too :) xx

I would try goats yoghurt before cows. I found it hard to get but Sainsburys do sell it.....or a deli if you have one xx

on paper Chappie shouldn't work but for some reason it's tolerated really well with a lot of dogs - I'm glad Mabel is doing well on it. :Z
Mr sensitive stomach here has no issue with yoghurts of any description (goats or cows) - depends on the individual dog completely, but I would definitely try goats milk yogurt first as this is far better tolerated and does really restore the balance in the gut - you could bypass this completely and get some acidophilus from the health food shop and mix this with Mabel's food.
I've just ordered a 15kg bag of Healthy Paws for Jarv - 45 Freakin' quid :032: Thankfully it lasts for ages and he is doing well on it.
I think a lot of it is trial and error with feeding - Jarv looked rank on Burns, and put on weight too easily with AG :076:

As food goes I think each to their own and research the different brands etc
Glad Mabes is doing well - Chappie is recommended by a lot of vets and lots of dogs do well on it
I've seen the food MM feeds and by golly it is good and a fantastic quality too - the dogs love it
Apparently to some I feed a Cr** food - but I don't give two hoots what anyone says as it suits my two dogs and my pocket

Well I don't think its cr@p food you feed your two Caroline I used to feed my three on it until one of our pet shops closed down a couple of years ago and the other one in Oban and PAH don't stock it. Went onto Chappie dry and they loved it and did well on it but I think they may have changed the ingredients because their coats went all dry and they had flaky skin. Now on CSJ Finn and Jan are ok but Tia has started scratching etc. and I'm thinking of changing her feed.
Burns is supposed to be the best but when I had Finn on it a years ago it did absolutely nothing for him - the weight fell off him and he was always hungry.
Only food I won't touch is Bakers (Bonkers dog food) its the equivelent of giving children Smarties. But then again I do know someone who fed their Lab on all his life and he never had a days illness and he lived until he was 14.
Suppose it really boils down to what suits your dogs and your pocket.
