Having not been to the cinema in a long time, I decided to ease myself back into it with an easy feel-good film by the same people that made toy story.
I had never before seen a 3D film in the cinema before, not since the whole green and red specs of the 80s, and I have to say that you would be hard pressed not to be impressed by it. It really is amazing. I actually ducked at one point as something flew past me haha. I really wondered how cinema could keep up with the low budget dvds out there.. well 3d is the answer.. and boy, it is an amazing answer.
But 3d or not, the film really does live up to Pixar's high standards. I look at their stuff and wonder where Disney went wrong with their own films. Of course disney worked with pixar on this.. but it seems more pixar than disney to be honest. No one does 3d stuff like Pixar. Of course you cant go to a 3d movie without noticing the graphics, and it is good. They havn't gone down the route of trying to make everything seem too real. Its just real enough to be nice, but not too much that it looks creepy. Some of the scenes are just plain amazing, especially with the 3d.
As for the story, well it didn't dissapoint either. I had gone into the film thinking the plot would be limited at best, having seen one too many disney films over the years that were about as plot-stimulating as a tin of mushy peas. But Up does actually deliver characters you actually end up feeling something for, and in ways that I didn't expect when I went in there, having seen the trailer. Some of the scenes were very touching, others were funny, exciting, unusual. Their portrayal of humans, and animals really was great.
For this film, it is getting 5 out of 5 stars because there really was nothing about this film that I feel like criticising... which is unusual. Go see it people.. its not just a kiddy film. Adults will enjoy it just as much as kids.
