hi everyone..
i have just been grooming my barnaby..( nearly 7 year old blue roan cocker)..
and have just had the fright of my life..i thought it was one of thoose dart things..out on a walk that they can pick up..so i tried to pull it..only to realise..it is attached to a stalk on the front of my boys front leg..it looks awful..and has bleed a little..
its all skin, but has lots of little finger like growth sprouting out of a main stalk..
looks like i'm going to have to go to the vets for my own peace of mind..but just thought i'd ask on here...if you have known anything like this ????
have'nt noticed this before..so can only just have come up..its not huge..but when standing..it sticks out through his fur..and you can clearly see it...

MIL's dog gets things like these and they are little cysts on her dog.
Could it be a wart?
Sorry Terri, can't be more help!
Good luck, but don't think it is anything tooooo scary!

It is not a type of wart or skin tag is it Terri? If it is all skin at least it sounds harmless.

My first thought was wart too, poor old Barnaby, give him a snuggle from me. Hope it is nothing more sinister.

hi thanks..:075:
my first though was skin tag..as hes had a few of these before..which vet just removes..but they don't and have never bleed before..
this one is nothing like what he has had before..and it is bothering him, only noticed it a few hours ago..and he keeps trying to lick it....its also bleed...and he is limping a bit on it..
vets fully booked tonight..so got him in their tommorrow..will let you know how we get on...hopefully something and nothing...
thanks again..

aww terri what a worry..:075::075:
peppers got a wee lump quite similar to this she catches hers on stuff and it bleeds. Ill try to get a pic. I thought hers was a tick to start with but its not. Its not smooth its more lumpy. shes 12 so about the age for odd lumps and bumps so I didnt panic but Im taking her to see the vet soon. I think Ill ask him to remove it.. just in case it is nasty. shes only had it a couple of weeks but I dont think its got any bigger.
its got a bit scab beside it but its still attached so I cant get it off yet. Ive wet her coat to part it to expose the wee lump as its hidden in her fur.
I hope Barnabys is harmless Im sure it will be. Ill be watching this with great interest.. Im hoping peppers will be just a harmless growth as well. it looks wet as I wet it to try and get the scab off as well no luck..
heres peppers..

hi Jean...:075:
thanks for sharring that with me..
i'm a born worrier when it comes to my own dogs..
and do get up tight over lumps and bumps..as my old boy jasper..gets tumors..so far they have been non cancerous...but he has to have any lump removed..as my jasper who is almost 10 now..was diganosed at the age of 2 1/2 years old with the rare skin condition called sterile panniculitis..he was under the royal vet collage...basicaly jaspers few layers of skin goes into overdrive..and he can never have any injection anywhere along his neck/back..if he needs an antibiotic he has to be admitted and have it as an IV in his leg..even a simple knock and his body goes into overdrive and starts forming tumors..we have gone several years now..as he has his yearly booster vaccination in his back leg in a muscle..which makes him lame for a couple of days due to where it has to go..
and i know barnaby has had a few skin tags..but these have looked nothing like this..this one the photo does'nt show it that good..but its on quite a thick stork..as i tried to pull it when i first spotted it thinking it was some grass seed thing attached into his fur..only to realise it was attached to him..
and he does'nt like it touched..he is aware its on his front leg...and has caused him to limp abit on it..and lick it..
so if you can spare a little thought later today..for barnaby..and hope it will be something and nothing..its just such a funny place for something to come up..
skin tags are normally on the face, chest area..as barnaby had one removed from his face last year..but it did not have a blood supply..as the vet clamped it and just snipped it off..and barnaby did'nt mind at all..
this has a blood supply..on quite a thick stalk..and the end of it bleeds...
it may well have to be removed..as where it is..barnaby can lick it..and also for grooming..i'm going to have to be careful i don't catch it..
funnily enough i think it was the same leg..barnaby did have almost plastic surgery..as he had a lump quite similar to the photo of jeans pepper..come up on his front paw pad underneath..which caused problems when he walked...that did look like a wart..round, flat..cauliflower looking..but was causing a problem..vet thought it was something nasty at first..and had to remove it along with part of the pad...but that was ok as it was sent off for analisis...whilst it was a tumor it was non cancerous..
but i know any lump should be checked..i just thought i'd ask..to put my mind at rest...but this has'nt worked..ha, ha..
i have been worried all night..
anyway enough of me waffling...
thank you so much for all your replies..and thank you to jea for sharring that about your dog pepper..i will let you know what my vet says later today..
i'm also taking grace along..as i also need to have grace tested , for pra and fn...have got the kit sent to me from antagene...and they can extract the dna and send to optigen for having her pra tested...so something more for me to worry about waiting for her results...
will update on her later today..
and hope peppers is something and nothing too Jean..
love terri

Best to be safe than sorry, off to the dog doctor then..
I've just learnt how to get rid warts on humans, dont know if it possible on dogs. you cover them with sellotape or duct tape to stop the oxygen, my cousin has spent a mint on treatment, even had acid based chemicals put on them and none has ever worked.

aw thanks everyone..:075:
panic over..its a form of skin tag..due to barnaby making excess keratin..
they advised he can't be 100 % sure it is'nt nothing nasty..but hes as certain as he can be..this is what he think it is..as its only in the skin..and can be moved freely and not attached underneath to anything..
i can have it removed..but have opted agisnt this for now..i was told they can grow in size..and some stay the same..
so i've said i will give it a few weeks..if it gets any bigger than i will have to have it removed..and sent for anyalisis..
but for now..i'm just going to wait and see..
i'm scarred of putting him under anesthetic..but if needs be he said if i'm worried and want it removed they can do it with local anesthectic..
he also said it will not go..it will always be with him..and just to keep an eye on it..
so panic over..also good luck to Jean and pepper..hope it all goes well..
and grace was an angel..my vets have fallen in love with her...she just let them do the swab test..and its being sent away tommorrow in the post..
i have a 5-10 wait for the FN ... but slightley longer for the pra test..as they are extracing dna from the bucal swab test..and then sending this to optigen..so takes longer doing it this way than through a 20/20 blood draw clinic..but its a nicer way to have it done..just hope it all comes back like melodys as she is a1 normal/clear for both fn and pra..
thanks again..for all your replies and support..
love from a not so worried terri

So pleased to hear the good news Terri, I'm so pleased that the tag is nothing worse than that.
Sounds like Grace was her usual wonderful self, she is such a placid, good girl, fingers crossed the tests come back clear.
