dew claws

Just snuggling with Fred and realised that his dew claws are getting quite long and sharp, how often should I be trimming them and how should I trim them

I got some nail clippers from crufts and do them myself too now,like carol said,only the ends and as often as you think xxxx

I know I'm being dense but what are dew claws? I often see adds for pups that say "dew claws removed" so I'm confoosed

thanks. I've just had a feel and I think there is something high up on her claws so I guess that must be it.
