Yup, the chatroom is now available. You just enter your nickname and click Go!

A few words first....

1. You need Sun Java Client (http://www.java.com/getjava/) to use the chatroom (you may already have it installed anyway - as its fairly common)

2. Your firewall needs to allow IRC traffic. Again, this may already be the case

I'll see yaz on there!!

It wont let me in :( but that may be to do with the work network (its a school so they have stupid filter things on (I cant bypass any of them as that all has to be done by the techies and the one I had wrapped around my finger has left :04:

I just tried it and it said 'not on a channel'

Simon

If you got connected to the actual chatroom then you'll see this... (or similar)....

success.jpg[/attachment:74bd8]

If however, you got connected to IRC (the host) but didnt get into the chatroom, you'll see this....

connected.jpg[/attachment:74bd8]

If you get the above screen, try typing this in the blank line at the bottom... (this is where you type messages / commands)

/join _vc_chatroom_001

NOTE: If you work in a school, you'll be behind a corporate firewall which wont allow IRC

REMEMBER: If you're havin problems gettin connected to the chatroom, try updating your version of Java! (http://www.java.com/getjava/)

I think you may have said "No" when it asked if it was ok to run the application. Now that you've said no, it wont ask again.

Clearing your internet cache files should help, because I did the same thing in Internet Explorer.

I couldn't see anyone saying anything so i didn't either. :11: So i don't actually know if it was working or not.

ok i have yet another problem. i have to use a different name everytime i try to join the chat room. why??? i am managing to confuse myself with this. i have no buttons so i can sign out or leave.so when i try to reenter it says that nickname is already in use.

It says on the left of the box who is on, you wont actually see any of the previous conversation when you join, so next time if anyone is on, say hi so we know you're there :D :D

Can you run ANY java content?

You can test your install by going here (http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp)

Simon
16th September 2007, 15:22
Lyn - I think it may be connection related. If your connection is intermittent, that will cause it problems too. Not sure really. You're the only person who's getting the problem.

When I click on the 'Chat' icon I go to a page which is blank apart from a box with 'Chat name' to the left of it and 'Go' to the right. When I click on 'Go' after entering 'happydog' I get a page which is completely blank -apart from the title 'Test Chatroom for VC' and the link option (Back to vocalcafe.co.uk) with a small box below it with a red cross in. If I scroll down there is nothing :(

I got the same when I first tried. so downloaded the java thing. Still can't get on,
It says The application digital server has an error. Do you want to run application, I press run. Then it says connections logging in hostname. no ident response. error closing link 127.0.0.1 [Banned] disconnected from from irc servercentral.net.
what the hell does this mean. have I been banned

Simon
16th September 2007, 18:40
Ahhh ok, it looks like this type of chatroom is gonna be more trouble than it's worth! The Banned message you get is a message about your ISPs IP address range which has been banned off that particular IRC server. Michelle had it also, so I shifted server elsewhere.

I'm gonna look for an alternative! Standby!
