Indy :077:

We were very naieve when we got Indy :Z she was from the equivalent of a BYB and we later found how in-bred she was when we received her pedigree after we got her...her mum had been bred back to a son from a previous litter :055: and Indy and her 8 siblings were the result....

Her mum died when she was 6 days old, so she was hand reared and as a result we have realised that other cats just annoy her, and she'd rather it was just her in the house :045: I've never know such a jealous cat!

Unsurprisingly given her start in life she has had a few serious illnesses, flu type things that have seen her hospitalized and in a oxygen tent for a few days. Touch wood, she's been pretty healthy for the past 18months...

Anyway here's some pics of her from kitten to now - Our very prescious baby :078:

She's beautiful:077: it's amazing how much her markings changed from when she was a kitten, i wouldn't have thought it was the same cat!

I know! My nan has a Siamese and when we got Indy I thought no way would she end up as dark as my nan's.....but she's even darker, their coat change is amazing, as is the reason why the points develop in the first place....

"The pointed pattern is a form of partial albinism, resulting from a mutation in tyrosinase, an enzyme involved in melanin production. The mutated enzyme is heat-sensitive; it fails to work at normal body temperatures, but becomes active in cooler areas of the skin. This results in dark colouration in the coolest parts of the cat's body, including the extremities and the face, which is cooled by the passage of air through the sinuses. All Siamese kittens, although pure cream or white at birth, develop visible points in the first few months of life in colder parts of their body. By the time a kitten is four weeks old the points should be clearly distinguishable enough to recognise which colour they are. Siamese cats tend to darken with age, and generally adult Siamese living in warm climates have lighter coats than those in cool climates.

This is why Siamese cats get darker in winter and paler in summer. If you put socks on your Siamese for several weeks, it would end up with white markings on its feet."

mmmmmm wonder if she would let me put socks on her :045:

Indy is a lovely cat, theres no denying it!

as to the above, maybe you should get her a jumper with "INDY" cut out of it like stencil then she can go light with a dark brown "INDY" across her back lol
