Just found blood on thomas's bed and after looking everywhere for the source, have found what I think to be an abscess on his rear end. Tried to clean it to see what was up and it looks huge, doesnt seem to be any pus just dark blood, I never noticed it before as his hair is quite long and he's been fine. Booked in with the vet at 5.50. Has anyone else had any experience of abscesses? and why the hell do things like this come along when you can least afford them  ooh I hope it is just an abscess, am shitting myself now!

Turns out he has an infected anal sac  he had two injections, one antibiotic and one painkiller. He has to go back in the morning so they can drain it and give it a good clean out. Todays visit cost 46.00 and tommorrows little trip is going to cost about 150.00  , heres hoping I can get them to deal directly with the insurance, anyone got any history with Healthy Pets insurance?

ok i know nothing about healthy pets but in future you may think about good raw mwaty bones for thomas. they help with anal glands ;)

Ooooh, poor Thomas. It's sounds uncomfortable poor chap.
heres hoping I can get them to deal directly with the insurance, anyone got any history with Healthy Pets insurance? I'm with Healthy Pets and they paid out with no problem on two separate occasions in the last 12 months. Took a little while for the money to come through but no quibbling. I have never tried to get them to deal directly with the vets. You could ring them and ask. I ring them, check we are covered, they send a form, I part fill it in and leave it with the vets with a SAE after I have paid. The vets fill in the rest and send it off for me.

Eeek Poor thomas. :09: Lucy is still not right in that department either, after seeing what a nervous wreck she is the lovely vet has decided to sort hers out while she's getting spayed.

Thanks Lyn, your a star! The vets are going to deal directly with the insurance company, I basically paid the excess last night so I'll be ok now, he's there now, they have to anaesthatize? him and clean the abscess out, flush and clean him up then he will be on antibiotics for about two weeks, poor thing he really didnt want to go in

Just picked Thomas up from the vet and boy did he want to get out of there fast :D The nurse said he was sleepy, yeah right, legged it round the field and even went to the toilet (he's such a brave boy :13: ) although he is crying a bit when he sits down. He demanded to be fed as soon as we got in, so has had his dinner and his meds. The vet wants to see him in a few days to make sure everything is ok, but he seems fine now, thanks everyone :13:
