:078::078: hi to all on vc

as some of you have requested a puppy diary :044:.
i have started this off.
( this is a first for me, i've been breeding cockers now since 2003, and is a fabulous experinece to be able to share it with you all)

at present mum to be is doing well :078:.
and we now have 10 days to go before her due date ( 21st jan 09).
mum to be is nothing like a cocker at present, more waddling duck, bless her heart.
the last two weeks are always a struggle, this is mazie's 3rd and last litter, and after this she will be spayed and retired, but will remain with me as all my dogs are for life.
i will upload the first pic of mum and puppies once they are born, then i will add weekly pictures and then you can watch them grow and change over the weeks.

so at present all is calm, and mum is doing really well.
they are pregnant for 9 weeks, but from this wedensday coming, mazie could go in whelp any time, all the whelping area is set up, so i have to wait for nature and puppies to decide when they would like to make and entrance into our world.....

aw thanks everyone :078: on vc.

everythings nice and peaceful this end at present, mum to be fast asleep, gathering her strength, although she is huge and quite uncomfortable now, bless her heart.
from this wedendsay, mazie can go into whelp any day from then until the following wedensday 21st her due date.
but i usually get a few signs along the way.
so next week i'll add another pic of mum to be, and as soon as mazie has safely given birth to how ever many...

maybe you can all have a guess.....how many puppies mazie will have :044:.

so watch this space, and am so pleased i can share this all with you.

to be continued.....

well today we have now got 7 days to go.
mazie is still hanging in there and continuing to do well.
last night was lovely as i sat cuddling mazie, i could feel mazie's puppies kicking, so it seems they are all heading in the right direction.
mazie is so uncomfortable now, bless her heart, and think she will be releived and so much more comfortable, when the puppies are ready to make and entrance into our world.
but so far she is doing well, which is the main thing.
judgeing by her size, she seems to be still growing daily :074:, and i really don't think she could get any bigger.
not sure if she will make her due date of the 21st.

anyway, i'll continue to keep you all posted, and sometime over the next 7 days, i will post a picture of mum and you can all get your first glimpse of mazies puppies, and of course over the weeks, you can watch them grow with me.

Hope she, and you, are not waiting too much longer!

first time mums can actually go a week over, sometimes bitches have a double mating, so conception may not have occurred on the first mating, so again they can go a little over.
this is mazie's 3rd and last litter ( and will be spayed after this pregnancy, or after the puppies have left me).
and mazie only has the one mating, and has always gone to date.i suppose it also helps if you catch them on the right time,if that makes sence.
one of my older girls, who is retired from my breeding, on her 2nd litter, again she went to date, and i helped safely deliver the first two puppies, but them mum to be got into trouble, and needed a emergency c/section, she had 7 puppies, but sadley due the the c/section, one was born still born and another died shortley after birth, so its not easy, and you get sadness and heartache, which never gets any easier, even if they are all safely born, the first two weeks are the most critical, and you can still have a puppy just die on you).
and another one of my girls went 5 days over.
for mazie, and being a 3rd litter, ( they can have 4 litters, or up to the age of 8) but imo 3 litter is more than enough, and for me i then choose to have them spayed, all my girls stay with me for life, i never part with any of my dogs.), getting back to mazie, because it is a 3rd litter, and has only had the one mating, unless mazie starts to become stressed, or i think there is a problem, then vets will not let mazie go past her due date, if they are not here by the 21st jan, ( mazies due date), then it would go to a c/section.
hopefully mazie will have them naturally, but if it did go to c/section, i would also have her spayed at the same time aswell.
sorry for the long post, i could write all day about this....

Here's hoping all goes well for Mazie.

:078:

It is obvious from your posts that your dogs mean the world to you, and the responsible manner in which you breed, considering the welfare of your dogs and the future pups, shines through!! Your dogs are so lucky to have such a wonderul Mum!!! :044: If only all breeders were so committed to the welfare of their animals!

16th January 2009, 09:49
aw thanks karma.
obviously you don't know me, but i am a very passionate person , when it come to my dogs, and my breeding, i do all the health testing, pra , fn ect, annual eye tests, and everything that goes along with that.
i only breed one to two litters a year, or when i wish to retain one, for showing ect.
my dogs are my life, i choose to have them, so holidays are a thing of the past,, ha, ha, it would actually cost more to put my dogs in kennels with 9 cockers, then it would for me and hubby to go on holiday, plus i could'nt leave them , i'd worry too much.
i keep in touch with all my past puppy owners,( which is fantastic), i get regualr, e-mails, letter, and some have even gone and had books done of the first years of their puppies ect, and posted them to me..
yes i like to think i do things right, i don't like the term " breeder", anyone can breed dogs, but its doing it the right way,my reputatuion means the world to me, and i also stand by all my puppies for LIFE.
i have made many life long friends through doing what i do, and years down the line, i have people ( espeically if one of my puppies have gone locally), then they pop back and have a coffee and chat with me, while the dogs play in the garden. which is so lovely to see.

all my puppies are kc registered, and have a huge information pack, covering just about everything, from care and diet sheets, worming, vaccinations, fleas, toilet training, coat care sheets,socialistion/ future training, all my puppies have the first vaccination done at my expense, and not the new owner, all have a worming certifictae, plus out of my own pocket, i buy all my new owners, spnaiel bowls, a puppy blanket, puppy toys, ect just to start them off, and each puppy has their own individual scrapbook, with pics of mum, dad, mum throughout pregnancy, and pics from birth until they leave me at 8 plus weeks, and i also do one last family photo, with mum and all the puppies. as i just think its nice to look back on over the years.
all my puppies have a food pack, plus so much more, and a lifetime of advise, and aftersales care.
as much as i like and insist new persective puppy owners do thier home work, i never just add names on my puppy waiting lists, i always meet persective owners first, they have a question aire to fill out, and we have a talk, and ask as many questions as we can.whilst i realise people can lie, i like to think people are as honest as me, i have refused people, which is neer easy.
and all my puppies are sold with a puppies sales contract, stating all my puppies hvae endorsments placed on them, so they don't end up in the wrong hands with the wrong people.
just a bit on what i do.

daddy to mazie's puppies is tri ( black, white and tan).
it's a 3rd repeat mating, so i know the colours, as i've had these in mazie's last two litters.
but i'm expecting, blue roan & tans, tri's ( black,white & tans), chocolate/liver roan & tan, and chocolate/liver ,white & tan.
blue roans, is from mazie, and her mum was also a blue roan and tan, dad is tri, so thats where the tri's come from, and both carry chocolate/liver roan & tans in both pedigrees, and on dad's side there is also chocolate/liver,white and tans.

not sure i agree its exciting, (it will be), once i know mum and puppies are all ok. before hand i still find after god knows how many years now, i still find it very nervewrecking, as you almost expect something to go wrong, i have to mentally prepare, for every eventuality.

I don't know too much about breeding, so forgive me if I ask dafty questions! Do you take temperature readings to find out what stage shes at etc? The breeder I used to work for didn't do this, but after lots of umming and aring about breeding from one of mine, this was one of the things that I read about.

oh bless, thanks everyone.
believe me this end, is feeling like an eternity, with watching and waiting.
mazie has always gone to her due date,( never gone over or before).
so hopefully, tommorrow ( mazies due date), i can at last be able to finally post a pic of mum mazie and her puppies.
in the meantime, and i'm sure mazie has grown more ,ooppss...
i have added one last picture of mum to be.
the last couple of days is a real struggle for them, if i could go through all the pain for her them i would.
but mazie is still hanging on in there, the puppies however, are really, really active, and i'm feeling lots and lots of kicks, and somersaults, so hopefully they are now begining the journey, and starting to line up, for their entry into our world.
as soon as i have any news, then i will let you all know, knowing mazie it will go into the early hours, will check if anyone online...:044:

hi all on vc :078:

just to let you know, nothing yet this end......

but for my own peace of mind, i have phoned my vets, and i already knew, mazie may not have taken on her mating day ( as she only has one mating).
but she can go two days over, so if nothing by saturday, then my vet wants to see her, and it may well go to a c/section, she is so big, and so uncomfortable now, i think even mazie wants it over now, bless her heart.
but fingers crossed, it won't go to a c/section, and mazie has them naturally.

but i will keep you updated, also just wanted to say thanks for all the well wishes for mazie, and looks like this time round, mazie is going to prove me wrong, and go over her due date, although we still have a few more hours of today...
will update again soon.
love terri

morning all to vc :078:
just a quick update...
well, had a really restless night with poor mazie..and have been up since 5 am .
and puppies are so active now, so obviously want to come out, looks like the vets won't be needed,( i hope unless there is a problem), but mazie is now breathing really heavy, pacing ect..
so mazie is offically now in the very early stages of labour, going to be a long day today, but so worth it..and hopefully all going well, i can at last post a picture of mum mazie and her puppies.
wish us luck..
will let you know later on how it's all gone.
love terri and a very restless and panting mazie

hi everyone on vc :078:

well, what can i say...
still no puppies, then an emergency vet trip.
as all seemed to be going well, then things all stopped:010:
well vets have checked mazie over, she is perfect, then they said mazie looks huge, bless her, then listened to the puppies with his stethascope, puppies are all really active, and all have strong heartbeats :078:.
then took her temp... and is way down, and vets have assured me , mazie is definatley in whelp/ labour, and within the next 24 hours they should be with us. also no blockage internally, so nothing to stop them...
as i've been up since really early this morning, i'd say we are halfway through the 24 hours, vet also said, i'm in for a very sleepless night again.
so hence why i have'nt been on much,( having a few cat naps, just done some coffee, to hopefully see me through the night now, mazie very restless, wakes up, starts panting, can't leave her now..) thank you so much for your well wishes for mazie and me. and hopefully unless mazie also wants to prove my vet wrong as well, i can finally post a pic tommorrow.
4 days over....
to be continued...
love terri

here is a short piece of video of mazie earlier today.which you can clearly see the puppies moving, and small contractions.. before it all went quite, but mazie is intermittingly sleeping, and panting...

see I wish the 'let's give her one litter' brigade could see this thread - whelping pups is so far from being easy and I don't think I could handle it! Mazie is in safe hands with you though, it must be so tiring for both of you.

Hope things start happening and we see pics of beautiful babies very soon :078::078::078::078:
