what are your hobbies. i don't really have any atm. i love reading, i need glasses though so it gives me a headache :x i used to love growing my own plants and i grew some spectacular tropical plants over the last few years but since getting ellie i had to give it all up coz it seems she loves to help dig :04: she also like to eat baby plants. i love anything paranormal always have but there are so many frauds now its been spoilt. if i could afford it i would love a huge telescope so i could study the sky. i did toy with the idea recently of building a street telescope but the use of power tools is needed and i'm dangerous with those. i would also love to get more into photography but i'm useless at it. i can't figure out the light thing. penel has tried to explain it to me but my brain won't take it in.
i think my fave hobby was gardening and growing plants. i didn't grow much of the usual bedding stuff coz it always reminded me of park flower beds. my best results wwere with a plant called ricinus. i grew some about three years ago and they reached over eight foot tall and the leaves were about three feet across. they were well cool. have grown bananas, ginger lillies, giant nicotianas and all manner of unusual plants.
so come on lets hear what your hobbies are.

I like to go to the beach and fly my kite...Obviously on nice sunny days :12: !! And I've been doing tai chi for a couple of years now and can almost do the whole form from start to finish! :11:

I used to be super active in my youth with football, volleyball, karate & judo. But then I broke my knee :04: and gave it all up. I now less active hobbies.

I love computer games and spend a fair bit on the PC/Xbox360.

My big passion at the moment though is golf. Been farting about with it for about 18months to 2 years but finally bit the bullet and joined a club and working on getting better. Try to get out as much as I can (Read as - As much as the wife will let me!) and have got the bug big time.

This is where i make myself sound completely mad, but other than the obvious dogs, i'm obsessed with chickens! I've already got a chicken house living in someone elses garden, which will move when we do, and it's OH's job to get me some ex-battery hens for xmas. T'other main one at the moment is nappies :06:  (yeah, i know  ) Indie's in real nappies and my latest project is to sew him some funky ones, so spending far too much time researching online at the mo. :D

Once we've moved i'm going to plant lots of edible things in the garden (which i'm sure will be destroyed by the dogs/chickens) so that'll be another project. :D

Pixie
28th August 2007, 21:53
oh, oh real nappies are cool :12: .. I've got heaps too! Tell Simon how good they are  .. Jack should be in real nappies

Simon
28th August 2007, 22:09
Real nappies are rubbish. They are oversized, cause the same amount of redness on the childs bum, keep the kid soaked to the skin, prevent good movement in the legs, are a pain in the ass to clean, and look rediculous in most cases. Sorry, am not a subscriber to real nappies.

Disposable nappies for the win. And lets face it, it's a bit bloody late to worry about the environment now isn't it? I'd say that any damage we were gonna do to this planet - we've pretty much done already. Now its just a matter of time.

Michelle
28th August 2007, 22:40
I'd have to go with Simon on that one, disposable nappies are just so much easier and imo more comfortable for the baby! having twins I couldnt of coped with the extra work involved with terry nappies, scraping, soaking and getting them dry, you cant dry them natural without them feeling rough and stiff and to dry them in a tumble drier seems to defeat the object of environmently friendly. Also I think that they retain liquid far more than normal nappies, which is important of a night time when they sleep more, plus they dont leak! :D

stumpy
28th August 2007, 23:23
I'm just a tad over 21 and my arse is still sore from them darn 'real nappies'. :04: :04: :04: .......geez, give a babies bottom a break or he / she may be marked for life and develop a fear of fluffy white towels :09: [then what would they bring you back from the nice hotels they visit when they are courting?] :12: :10: :12:

But as far as my hobbies go........

Love walking but i'm too lazy
Was into golf but lost all my balls [no comments]
Gave up weightlifting coz I took up golf and walking
Love scuba diving but don't have time
Fishing is a real treat when home and it's not bloody raining
Reading is the only constant I have and that's only if there's pictures

:09: You all talk rubbish! :04: Except Pixie  :10: who is my new best buddy :P !

I use prefolds which dry on the line perfectly, they have a lovely thick booster for nighttime and look gorgeous on. (Not too bulky at all) As for preventing good movement in the legs! I wish someone had told Indie that, i can't keep the bugger still.

Looking after them is so easy, i just bung them in a bucket and do one wash every 2/3 days, which couldn't be easier.

His nappies NEVER leak, ever. (Smug smiley)

AND sore bottoms? WHERE?! I'm SO tempted to take a photo of his gorgeous bum which isn't even pink to prove how fantastic it is. I'm not exagerating at allll because people always say real nappies cause rash and i have to admire his bum every nappy change as it's just so lovely.

(And for the record, disposables STINK, i'm gonna have to have littleone in them today (as we're out all day) and i'm dreading it :04: )

Now, who's gonna say anything about breastfeeding. :03: :02:

Beth

Okay, couldn't resist!

You know what. Im going to take two pictures later on. One with a disposable nappy and one with a 'natural alternative'.

You can clearly see a huge difference in restriction of movement in the natural ones. A babys legs and arms need to move, to aid muscle development. He can barely move his legs at all in those things. And when you take one of them off - it's absolutely drenched. There's nowhere for the moisture to go to, so the damn thing is dripping wet even after a little bit of pee.

Sorry, I personally wouldn't recommend a 'natural' alternative. I see no benefits whatsoever with them.

Beth
29th August 2007, 09:44
My nappies are never dripping wet, d'you really think i'd carry on using them, and defending them if they were? I'm really quite funny about manky things too, i hate touching anything dirty, and these nappies very rarely are.

I really do love my nappies, :12: and you'll find most real nappy users do ;)

I am saying nothing about breast feeding unless you are going to do it for years and years like a thread i read recently on a another forum, you stick to your guns sweetie he is your baby and mummy knows best.
But hobbies
well Luke and Lilly really.
her gundog training that we keep plodding on with slowly.
Reading (I get about 4 books aweek from the library)
Forums like this...
Oh god what a sad cow I am! I would love to have the enthusiasm for something exciting or creative.

Simon
29th August 2007, 10:19
Well, whenever I change him - he's getting disposable nappies. Whenever she changes him, he's getting natural.

At least he can move 50% of the time! I WILL post pictures later on so you can all see the contrast!

lyn

now now children ;) ok heres what i think
remember i have 5 kids. i have always used disposables except for scott who was allergic to them :04: i have to go with the disposables tho. made life much much easier (i had 2 in nappies together) but beth is right, they stink. i was forever emptying the bin. 1 disposable nappy could stink the house out in minutes and it didn't even have to be a shitty one. even now i hate the smell of disposable nappies even the clean fresh out the pack smell makes me feel sick.
simon, generations of babies were raised with reall terry nappies and it didn't restrict leg movement or hinder our developement now did it?? you are right about the look of them tho. the babies always looked like babboons when they had one on. little skinny bodies with a giant arse.
i agree with simon about the enviroment too. the damage is done. but, i have to admit to believing its not really down to man. i think its a natural cycle the earth goes through every few thousands of years. there was more co2 in the atmosphere when the dinos roamed the earth than there is now.

Oooh, you've seen "The great global warming scandal" too eh!?

:P

Michelle
29th August 2007, 10:42
Does this mean we're going to be wiped out by a huge meteor   cos I am not liking that option!

lyn
29th August 2007, 10:51
no :? i haven't seen anything recently about global warming. i did kind of research the subject a while back after my friend became obsessed with global warming and how we were all going to die. i was so fed up of her spouting i really looked into it and decided its a natural cycle. now i want to watch this programme or film or whatever it is you mentioned simon. i love arguing about the enviroment. btw did anyone see the news last night and that bloke from wales who got fined £1000 for putting his bins out 5 days early :o fancy getting a fine for that when the councils are all eventually gonna have fortnightly collections and there is gonna be fly tipping and rotten rubbish everywhere. i still can't figure out the way they are trying to justify it all.

We have fornightly here black bin 1 week then grey bin the following. It is absolutely repulsive we got maggots in it last year when we had the mini heat wave. And I had to keep pouring boiling water in for days to kill the little sods. When this goes nationwide i reckon whoever thinks of something that will kill them will make a bloody fortune.

Beth

 Exactly why OH hasn't changed a nappy since we got back from hospital.

The bin thing is awful, i could not deal with maggots :11: I remember lifting a lid off a bin once and the whole lid was covered with them, so close to my hand too *shudder* vile creatures :x

Simon
29th August 2007, 11:08
No but you see, I WANT to do those things. But can't stand putting him in those other nappies!

Blergh.

When this goes nationwide i reckon whoever thinks of something that will kill them will make a bloody fortune.i hate maggots and they are indistructable(sp). i once bought one of those sacks of spuds and when i opened it it was full of maggots. i was like a screaming banshee for hours. they all fell out all over the place :09: i tried all kinds of stuff to kill the things but they just kept on wriggling away to their hears content. i had to get a male friend to shovel them all up with my dustpan and brush and bin them.
and though they are little they can move pretty damn quick too. :09:

Apparently the only ways to kill them is freeze them or boil them.
perhaps i could have this a a new hobby researching ways to kill maggots.

Aswell as animlas, I love to read and do crafty things (I can make a fair bit at craft fairs if I get off my backside and make enough stuff) I do various different thigns including silk painting, embossing, silk bracelets (dead popular with kids at £1 a shot) I also like cross stitching. My main hobbies were hiking and dancing (although that was a career till I busted my knee  ) I am trying to get my fitness up so I can go back to hiking but I know I cant do the dancing as muchas I used to.
