Well, I was in town yesterday and found myself in the O2 store. Once again, I got drawn towards the iPhone (the new 3G version) - and I've got to say, it's a gorgeous bit of kit. Here are some pros and cons....

Pro

It looks amazing! Very stylish, thin and lightweight
The control system is perfect
Emailing functions are slick
The Safari browser it uses is amazing. It has clear visibility, controls are intuitive and balanced
The 3G is pretty fast for a mobile device. Browsing was very impressive!
O2 are doing 'unlimited' web connection, 1200 minutes and 500 txts (and iphone) for £45/month over 18 month contract.

Con

There's no bloody MMS! WTF... every phone in existance has MMS!
Doesn't support Java, so no java games will be available (*there are some apple touch games becoming available tho*).
It doesn't support Flash either, so no flash content on websites
You can't bluetooth files to other phones!
In general, it looks amazing - and if you can do without the features listed above - it's more than worth the deal.

They've lowered the price too haven't they?

Seems a shame that such an advanced phone doesn't have the simple things like mms/java and bluetooth. Looks good too!

Getting one of these tomorrow as a free upgrade on my existing measly £25/m contract :044: Mainly use my phone for pictures and texting, so looks like this should be a cool new toy to play with.

it's brilliant. You wont be disappointed. I would recommend "Invisible Shield" for it though - it's a special coating thing you apply which stops it getting scratched (which it does easily!).

The Shield is hard to fit, but worthwhile.

Nat has that shield for her phone, she's never off the damn thing long enough for me to do it for her :045:

Be warned - it's ultra tricky. Here's some GOOD tips :-

1. Work on a clean surface
2. Have everything prepared and out of boxes beforehand
3. Clean your hands THOROUGHLY
4. Clean the phone with alcohol swaps properly
5. When you squeeze the liquid out from under the shield, make sure you have removed all bubbles
6. Leave plenty of time to dry.

If you're fitting for the iPhone, the shield wraps the whole body and sides. On my one, I used a razor and trimmed the edge bits off - so the shield only covers the front and back completely. I did this because it's not a great fit and it's fiddly anyway.

Good luck if you get one!

Cheers Simon I'll check that out.......It's not an iphone I'm getting, but the LG rip-off ;)

Yeah apparently Google have just released one too, called the G1.

Anyway, you get Invisible shield for all sorts of phones, just FYI.

How patronizing is this review  :045::045::045:

"It takes great pictures and movies. It’s a lovely touch screen. The internet looks pretty good on it. The audio is apparently brilliant (but we’ve not been able to experience that as yet) and the video playback is sublime.

Ergo: Excellent. This is a fantastic device for your wife, your sister, your girlfriend-who-isn’t-into-technology-but-likes-a-nice-phone."

Gwen

it wouldn't do for me but maybe my daughter will settle for it. I like little phones with BIG keys :D

Oddly, I've not missed it too much since I changed. Because for every feature the iPhone misses, it replaces it with 10 new (and generally more usable) features.

Don't forget too, that because internet is so fast on iPhone - you can send your photos via email straight from the phone.
